SYNOPSIS

Maintaining Accounting Records and Statutory Compliance CourseThis is a 2-day course packaged especially for new company owners who have only limited knowledge of accounting and finance and not familiar with the statutory requirements for financial reporting.

Companies are required to keep proper records and accounts of business transactions and hold annual general meeting under the Companies Act. In addition, companies must maintain proper records of its financial transactions and retain the source documents, accounting records and schedules, bank statements and any other records of transactions connected with their business.

Hence, it is important especially for small business owners to know how to comply with the statutory requirements and what essential documents to keep and how to keep proper records.

METHODOLOGY

This workshop is learner centric and uses interactive lectures, discussions, presentation and scenario-based learning as the main learning methodologies. We will be illustrating using a computerized accounting software to show how record keeping is done. Participants will be highly engaged with the various learning activities to scaffold key learning moments.

DAY 1
9:00am – 10:30am Statutory requirements – Deadlines to watch out
Introduction – Accounting is the language of business
– Common terms in financial statements
10:30am – 11:00am Tea break
11:00am – 12:30pm Introducing basic financial statements – Balance Sheets, income statements and cash flow statements
12:30pm – 1:30pm Lunch
1:30pm – 2:30pm Review (Go through the common financial terms in the basic financial statements that was introduced)
2:30pm – 3:00pm What are the source documents and accounting records to keep
3:00pm – 3:30pm Tea break
3:30pm – 5:00pm Walk through the accounting process with MYOB
DAY 2
9:00am – 10:00am Review (MYOB system)
10:00am – 10:30am Tea break
10:30am – 12:00pm Bank reconciliation as basic financial control

1:00pm – 2:00pm The complied accounts and informations that must be disclosed in the accounts
